Buddhism and Science - Breaking New Ground av Allan Wallace
"Distinguished philosophers, physicists, and cognitive scientists with the Dalai Lama and Buddhist scholars examine the connections and contrasts between the worlds of Western science and Buddhism.
The first section presents an historical overview of the key modes of inquiry, the second addresses points of intersection between Buddhism and the physical sciences; and the third the ways that Buddhism and the cognitive sciences inform each other. Modern physics - most notably quantum mechanics - has raised profound epistemological and ontological issues that challenge many of the traditional assumptions underlying science as a whole. On the broadest level, this work illuminates multiple ways of exploring the nature of human identity, the mind, and the universe at large.
Contributions include: On the Relevance of a Contemplative Science by Matthieu Ricard; Buddhism and Science on the Afflictions of Identity by William Waldron; Time and Impermanence in Middle Way Buddhism and Quantum Physics by Victor Mansfield; Emptiness and Relativity by David Ritz Finkelstein; Encounters Between Buddhist and Quantum Epistemologies by Anton Zeilinger, Emptiness and Quantum Theory by William Ames; Science as an Ally or a Rival Philosophy? by Thubten Jinpa, and much more."
