TRAGEDY struck the TT today after one of its best-known competitors died during practices.



The incident at Crosby claimed the life of David Jefferies, 30.

Jefferies was on his second lap and was sweeping through one of the fastest sections of the course when an incident occurred which also involved top runner Jim Moodie.

On his first lap, Jefferies had recorded a blistering time of 18 minutes, four seconds and seemed likely to continue his form when tragedy struck.

David Jefferies was the new superhero of the TT. His stunning performances on the V&M Yamahas in 1999 and 2000 and again last year on the TAS Suzukis, during which he chalked up nine wins, earned him his rightful place in the TT Hall of Fame alongside the greats.

His family was steeped in the TT, from his grandfather Allan to his father Tony who - won two races in the 1970s - nd his uncle Nick, winner of the 1993 Formula One.

Apart from being the outright lap record for the Snaefell Mountain Course with that stunning lap of 127.29mph last year, Jefferies was the yardstick every other rider measured himself against.

But he arrived at the TT a somewhat disconsolate after a mediocre showing in the North West 200.

His early form in practice was less than spectacular and it was clear that he was far from a happy man when he returned his first lap of practice the evening before his death. Prior to that, two of his sessions had been cut short by machine failures.

He had obviously recovered from those setbacks when he set off on Thursday afternoon determined to set the record straight and reaffirm himself as the favourite for the Formula One on Saturday afternoon.

The Thursday afternoon practice session is generally regarded as one of the most important sessions of the week as riders prepare for Saturday's Formula One encounter.

Moodie was taken to Noble's hospital after he become entangled in telephone lines strewn across the road after Jefferies' accident.

Although he received abrasions when the cable wrapped around his neck he was able to stop his bike in time to avoid serious injury.

While his injuries were not serious, doctors kept the Triumph ValMoto rider under observation for some time to be sure that his airways were not likely to constrict.

After a lengthy delay the sidecar practices went ahead as scheduled

Jaha då var det dags igen för en i detta fallet ung legend på Ön.
Väldigt tragiskt som i alla andra fall.
Skänker familjen en tanke och även vänner och bekanta.

Sjukt snabb förare, varje år vid IoM förundras man över dessa galningar. Oerhört tråkigt att det sker dödsolyckor, men tyvärr en del av spelet med IoM.

IOM, Ringen och många gatloppstävlingar är livsfarliga, dock väljer man själv om man vill köra, jag kör fortfarande ner till ringen ibland men med väldigt stor respekt pga den dåliga säkerheten.
Att träna på Knudan & Falken är inte ofarligt heller, man höjer ju ribban i takt med säkerheten, men jag kör iof sakta på dom flesta banorna.
