Superbikes opts for control tyres
Ducati are unhappy with the idea of control tyres
Ducati raise Superbike doubts
Hodgson set for MotoGP switch
The World Superbike Championship will use a control tyre for at least the next two years.
Series organiser FGSport announced the move to make Pirelli the sole supplier on Thursday, ending weeks of speculation.
The decision to prevent tyre competition will put at risk the involvement of the series' dominant bike manufacturer, Ducati, who have already threatened to cut back their investment in protest.
FGSport chairman Maurizio Flammini claimed the move would ensure competitors can race on a more even footing - Pirelli riders have struggled against those on Michelin and Dunlop rubber this season.
He said: "The agreement strictly adheres to the philosophy of the championship that is to offer equal racing conditions to all participants.
"In this respect, we would like to thank Pirelli for the significant organisational and technological efforts that it will undertake over the next few years.
"This, we are certain, will create the ideal conditions for new, important developments for motorcycle manufacturers, teams and riders in the championship and in racing itself."
Pirelli will also supply all tyres to the World Supersport and Superstock championships.
