Hi guys. Thanks for looking,

I am a competent road rider of 25 yrs and I have a Ducati ST4s. I realise it's not the perfect race-bike and I might get something smaller but I need some advice first.

I would like to take this on the track next summer, where could I go that's nearest to me?

and

I would like to do my racing licence but I have a limited command of Swedish...is that a problem, and where would I go to do the licence. Is there a track near Sundsvall somewhere?

If it all goes well then a little Aprilia 250 or something might find it's way to me. I just want to get on the track...

Any help will be appreciated.

Hello

I think Midlanda track very close to Sundsvall is the track nearest to you, i dont think you can take race licence there, and after that you have Mo rana in Norway and a small track called Molanda in jämtland(still no race licence tracks...)

Sweden dont have many tracks like england and sweden is also a very long contry...

Hi

You also have Kemora racetrack in Finland, but of course you'll need to take the ferry.

Hi Phil, and welcome to the forum.

Yes, as Lam-Kaka says, You'll find the nearest track in Antjärn, about 10 km south of Härnösand. But if You take the farry across the Gulf of Bothnia, You have a very nice track in Finland - Kemora rata, near the small city of Veteli.

Unfortunately, the Mittsverige track isn't approved by Svemo, the swedish race association, for official practice. Therefor, the local club N-M-S havent arranged any license courses during the last years.

For a license, I guess Gelleråsen outside Karlskoga would be Your best choise. But You could always participate in regular track days/courses with Your bike as long as it is insured and You can show Your driver license.

At Kemora track, there is a annual four day arrangement by a private person that is a member here (Tommen) during week 21. The Swedish Motorcyclist Association (SMC) have a four days driver course as well, normally the third week in july.

At Mittsverige, You have track days arranged by UMCC (local club in Umeå), Banåkning.nu, privateers and also SMC in August.

So, You have a lot of alternative for practice Your track skills if You can stand a little distances...

Good luck:tummenupp

Hi Geordiboy, living close to Umeå you say?

Feel free to visit our website umcc.nu, join our Facebook group and visit our forum (umeå motorcykelklubb) here on sporthoj for more information about our trackdays and other events/! During most tuesdays (and of course other days/evenings as well) there's a good chance of meeting up with us at our club house in Umeå and chat a bit about coming trackdays and motorcycling in general, maybe shoot some pool or watch a GP Race! Riding alone isn't much fun either so joining the club and participating in our activities is a good way to find riding pals on and off the track :)

Roger, UMCC

Sorry about posting this non racing related info here in the racing forum btw.

Thanks Roffe, can I do track days on my road bike without modifying it? and without a race licence?

You see, I can imagine doing 2 or 3 track days a year but maybe not getting into the full race thing, yet.:tummenupp

Yes, You can use Your track bike for calm, intermediate or fast street group in trackdays as well as driver school days without any severe modifications. There will be a small technical check of the bike as well, often fork seeling brake pads, steering/wheel bearings, chain tension, brake pressure... Make sure that Your bike isnt too noisy, the limit is 95dB measured at drive-by so a dB-killer might be a good investment. There are always a driver meeting in the morning, explaining the rules for the day.

Have You done trackdays earlier? If not, just ask all the questions You need on here or when visiting rogbo, UMCC is a great club and do very nice and pleasant track days.

One thing, You might be interested in checking up Your insurance conditions when it comes to the risks. Here in Sweden, the insurance companies are excluding vehicle damage coverage, in spite of the fact that all the bikes in the road groups have road insurance. One exeption hoverever is the driver school events by SMC.

But - I'm sure You'll get a lot of help and good advice by Rogbo and the other at UMCC! And welcome to the track next season:)
