KTM’s shifting a chunk of its production to China – and it’s building a new 2,300 square metre factory in partnership with CFMoto.

KTM is moving the production of its 790 Duke and 790 Adventure from Mattighofen in Austria to Hangzhou in China (200 km south-west of Shanghai) – as part of a new joint venture with CFMoto.
Construction of the plant began in March 2018 and the structure scheduled to be completed by June 2020 – before KTM’s production line kicks off properly in September. It’ll have a production capacity of 50,000 motorcycles per year – although there’s scope to up it to 100,000 if demand increases. And the plant will also house a dedicated testing area, in addition to a research and development department.

In addition to the 790 KTMs, the new factory will also be producing the new 890 Duke R and CFMoto’s own models (which use KTM’s LC8 engine) – helping the Mattighofen factory to focus on its flagship machines, including the 1290 Super Adventure , the 1290 GT Super Duke and the 1290 Super Duke R.
