Saxat från amasuperbike.com:
The first round of the SuperMoto USA triple crown kicked off yesterday, Sunday, April 27th, at Vallejo, CA.
The grid had many Supermoto USA regulars, such as Matt Wait and Doug Chandler, but was also graced with Mr. Daytona himself, former world champion Scott Russell.
Russell was riding a KTM and ran strongly in both Open Extreme races.
In the first race, he just missed the podium, finishing fourth, but in the second race, he ran very strongly to finish second to motocross legend Jeff Ward (3x). Russell finished well ahead of the rest of the Supermotard regulars, including Chander, Wait and Casey Yarrow.
Russell was wearing a big smile during the podium ceremony, and seemed truly happy to be competing again. From his performance at Vallejo, one would never guess the extent of the very serious and debilitating injuries he suffered at his last race
