Liten uppdattering gällande SHARP:
Dear Adis,
Thank you for your email below, and for your interest in SHARP.
We would like to confirm that there has been no change to the SHARP testing methodology or rating system since the introduction of the programme in November 2007, therefore direct comparisons of the ratings of helmets can still be made irrespective of the date of testing. The helmet testing consists of 30 linear and 2 oblique impacts on each motorcycle helmet over three impact velocities (6, 7.5 and 8.5 metres per second). Each helmet is impacted on the front, rear, crown, left and right sides. A total of 7 helmets are tested per helmet model to generate the SHARP rating. The rating is calculated by measuring the peak acceleration (peak 'g') that the brain experiences during an impact, combined with the probability of risk of injury on roads in the United Kingdom at that impact site. This probability of risk has been derived from Department for Transport accident studies involving motorcycle accidents which resulted in slightly injured, seriously injured or fatal outcomes.
We hope this is helpful. Please check the SHARP website for future releases. You can also subscribe to our email updates (to subscribe, click on ‘subscribe’ at the top of the SHARP homepage) or follow us on Twitter (@SHARPgovuk) and we will let you know when any new ratings are published.
Kind regards,
The SHARP Team
