Ett grymt pic jag sprang på och måste förmedla. Daytona 1973.
This is an oldie (1973) but one of a sequence of photos of Mark Brelsford's horrific crash at the Daytona 200 Motorcycle race.
Mark was one of the greatest flattrack motorcycle racers of all time, and won the AMA championshio and the #1 plate in 1972. But his competitive edge and racing career basically ended at Daytona the following year.
Rider Larry Darr's engine quit and he pulled to the side of the track, out of traffic. But he had so much momentum, he decided to try to see if he could coast back to the pits. So he looked over his shoulder and didn't see anyone, then immediately cut across the track. Mark t-boned him at over 100 mph.
Both bikes exploded in flames, and Mark rolled backwards off his bike, tumbling on the ground. The bike continued for several hundred yards as a rolling fireball!
The impact ripped Darr's knee off, and seriously injured both riders.
While Mark did fully recover from this (broke ankle) which put him out for the year, he had another bad crash in '74 and retired. 73-74 was a bad year for motorcycle racers, jarno saarinen, renzo pavolini, and cal rayborn all lost their lives.
