Fler rykten placerar Checa hos Tech 3 och varför inte? Ingen av dem har något att förlora på det tycker jag.
"Poncharal drops Checa Qatar hint.
Tech 3 Yamaha boss Herve Poncharal has revealed that he could sign a second rider - almost certainly Carlos Checa - in time for the Qatar MotoGP test, which takes place from February 6-8.
Tech 3 - which will switch from Michelin to Dunlop tyres this season - is currently relying totally on M1 rookie James Ellison, but is eager to speed up development of its new tyre partnership with a further rider. In turn, the second Tech 3 seat represents Checa's last chance of a competitive 2006 ride, following the collapse of Honda Pons.
"Obviously the main thing is for Dunlop to get as much data and laps done as possible," explained Poncharal. "With this in mind and as everyone knows, we are still hoping to have a second rider and we are working as hard as possible to try to find a solution and a way to attend the test in Qatar with two riders."
Checa was a Yamaha 500cc/MotoGP rider between 1999-2004, during which time he claimed 14 podium finishes and a best championship position of fifth. The Spaniard then switched to the Ducati Marlboro Team last season, with whom he took two podiums, before being replaced by countryman Sete Gibernau for 2006.
