"Its not everyday the chance comes along to see such a bike such as Js supercharged RSV Factory, little alone to be given the opportunity to ride it. But I think its ever more rare these days to meet such a great group of people that was Js family and his close friends, I was openly invited into there homes, I was introduced to open Kebab pizza, Swedish beer and the Tom Collins (admittedly a slightly gay drink only to be had amongst friends and out of the public eye, but very easy to dink and goes down so well on a summers night). We shared the mandatory bike stories, I was proudly shown the home made bike videos of wheelies, rolling burn outs and high speed runs through the surrounding country side, and by the end of the night when we were left wondering what else we were going to drink, the night was suitably called to a climaxing end with a pair of R1s in the shed doing duo burn outs. It was at this point I realized I had known everyone in my present company for 6 hours, man what a reception.
After much anticipation and build up from the night before, the day was here and time to go for a ride, myself on the SC Factory, with J and Robert on the pair of R1s. The bike set up was completely unfamiliar to me, the rear shock is very high and with a tall tire, the result is when seated you stand on the balls of your feet, on my Tuono I’m complelty flat footed, it also has high rear sets, and to my horror a race pattern shift…. shit this doesn’t feel rite…. but as I was advised it all falls into place once under way, oh and a quick shifter set to operate at 6500rpm. So off down the drive we go…. Hmmm this feels complelty normal, no coughing, farting, surging, it rides just like a normal RSV, just a slight mechanical whir of belt and pulleys amongst the usual thump on an open twin. We fuel up and get out on the road, once again behaving very nicely with small throttle and idling through round abouts without a single problem. Finally on the open highway, so I give it a bit to follow the R1s, initially just a little, no probs, no smack in the mouth from the triple clamp, very normal the only thing that tells you its different is the satisfying Pffft sound of the blow off valve between gear shifts, then I give it allot… and my god…. it pulls like a freight train, with just one constant rushing wave of power, I dance down on the quick shifter to keep up with the tacho and very quickly the boys in front are being reeled in and I quickly back off…. This thing is fuckin awesome, I try some runs in high gears from low revs, and the same again, just one constant surge of power through the entire rev range, you want a bit , then turn the throttle a bit, you want allot then just wind it on. Almost too easy, you work for nothing with this engine, gear selection no longer matters, just throttle control, the torque is incredible. Before I rode it I was planning on comparing it to a modern 1000cc jap 4, but its so different, a 4 has big power (still not as much as this) but you work for it and know the big rush is after say 9000rpm, but the pull with the SC Mille feels the same at all revs, the drive out of corners was incredible. The best way to describe the power delivery is a constant linear form of acceleration, it just pulls hard at the same rate, the HP curve is a straight 45 degree line and the torque builds quickly and levels off and stays high. And the fact that the blower added nothing bad really amazed me, I was for sure expecting some funny little things to happen at on and off part throttle, or down shifting or deceleration, but everything worked great. Unfortunately our ride was cut a little short due to rain, although long enough for the fuel light to come on as we got home, but it certainly gave me a nice taste of what the bike is capable of.
I just wish this was an option from Aprilia, because to go through what J and his mates did in their shed is not for the average bloke, even though the hard work of design and development has now been done. Unless a comprehensive kit can be produced, I dont see it being available to the people. Scott can we sort out what is required to get this kit happening???? I’ve tasted the forbidden fruit and I’m more toey than a roman sandal… I neeeeed it. "
