Crutchlow will continue with the latest Yamaha tank and seat this weekend, which he believes can offer greater performance once the set-up is perfected. But that task is made more complicated by Crutchlow running a different specification of frame relative to factory Yamaha riders Jorge Lorenzo and Valentino Rossi.
“There's no doubt the new parts are better, I just haven't had enough time on them,” said Crutchlow. “Plus the chassis I have is not the same as the factory. I had the option to run that chassis earlier in the year, and did at one test, but didn't [like it], because then I didn't have the seat.
“Now I've got the seat but not the chassis! So I've dug my own hole! I can have the chassis back, no problem, but not this weekend. We need to test with it first.”
The next official post-race test will be held after Misano, in mid-September.
