Casey Stoner
"This first day with the GP8 was really positive for us. I immediately felt at home on the bike because it's pretty similar to what we rode last season. Today we were quite a bit faster than we were when we raced here back in March, which is very important because we have improved at a track that used to be a bit difficult for us. We found a very good set-up which could also be good at other circuits. We used 2007 spec tyres today, tomorrow we will start with Bridgestone's new tyres. The only bad moment of the day was the crash, but these things can happen. I'm okay though, so everything is fine."

Marco Melandri
"We started working on chassis geometry to adapt the bike to my riding style. Today we made some good choices on settings and also some not so good choices, but every change teaches us something more about the bike which is very important. Towards the end of the day we found a set-up that I liked better, even though I don't yet feel totally at ease. We have work to do and I'm not at all worried about that."

Valentino Rossi (3rd, 1’40.514, 49 laps)
“My first comment about the tyres is positive, and this has definitely been a positive day for us in terms of times and my feeling with the bike. My pace was not bad at all, even though my hand is still hurting, especially in braking. Let’s say that I am at 90% fitness! I am happy with the choice I have made and I have great motivation for the task. Today it was also clear that there is a very high level of concentration from all the team members and this gives me even higher motivation, if possible. We have two more days, so it is not time for a final comment, but I am happy with the first day. Furthermore Furusawa-san is here, and this gives an idea of Yamaha’s commitment to improve and to return to the top. Let’s see how it goes tomorrow and let’s hope it can be even better than it was today.”

Davide Brivio –Team Manager
“Today was the day we have all been waiting for. It has been a very important day for us, because we’ve been looking forward to having the chance to confirm our decision. We also wanted to check Valentino’s physical condition after the crash in Valencia. At the beginning of the test he suffered a bit, but he went better as the day went on, even if we know he is not at 100% yet. As far as the new work with Bridgestone is concerned, we made a good start. Today we used all the time to get to know each other and to allow our engineers to interact with their technicians. We also worked to understand what kind of modifications we need to make to the bike, in order to make it work properly with the new tyres. Technically, of course, we have concentrated entirely on tyres and on understanding Valentino’s initial comments about them. It was a good day with good times and we look forward to continuing the work tomorrow and on Thursday.”

Lorenzo's third Yamaha test gets underway in Jerez
Lorenzo began his third test with Yamaha today, his final test before he becomes an official Fiat Yamaha Team rider in January. Having tested recently in Malaysia, the 20-year-old Spaniard finds himself a little closer to home this time and in somewhat cooler temperatures, at the Andalucian circuit of Jerez.

Lorenzo and his team picked up from where they left off in Sepang, continuing to work on general set-up as the 250cc World Champion becomes better adapted to the demands of an 800cc MotoGP bike and his new Michelin tyres. Lorenzo’s aim for this test is to get as many kilometres under his belt as possible and he started well today, completing 91 laps and setting the seventh best time of 1’41.230. The best time of the day was set by Casey Stoner, with a lap of 1’40.221 while Lorenzo’s 2008 team-mate Valentino Rossi was third with a time of 1’40.514.

Jorge Lorenzo (7th, 1’41.230, 91 laps)
“Today I felt much better on the bike than I did in Sepang. I feel more comfortable with the bike every time I ride it and for sure it feels more like a part of me now. I am really looking forward to improving again tomorrow and the day after tomorrow. Today I rode 91 laps, so I really made the most of the day, and I will continue to work tomorrow to improve again. The more kilometres I ride, the better it is for me and for my team, and I want to give them all the information I can in order to improve as much as we can over these winter tests.”

Daniele Romagnoli – Team Manager
“Today with Jorge we confirmed the set-up we found in Sepang and we also confirmed the new bike geometry we tested there. This helps us to check that we are working in the correct direction. Today we also found a new riding position for Jorge; we put a new spacer on the tank and it seems to work perfect ly. He feels better and better on the bike all the time. He rode 91 laps, which is a huge effort, both from him and from our staff members (who I want to thank!) He kept a high level of concentration throughout the whole day, and he was therefore able to give us the maximum in terms of information, feeling and comment. Tomorrow we will work on the set-up again and hopefully we will be able to confirm today’s modifications.”

Rizla Suzuki MotoGP completes 2007 test schedule
Rizla Suzuki MotoGP has concluded its 2007 post-season test schedule with a successful behind-closed-doors two-day test at Phillip Island in Australia.

Chris Vermeulen, Loris Capirossi and the rest of the Suzuki Grand Prix team travelled to the southern hemisphere to put the new 2008 prototype Suzuki GSV-R through its paces, while the other MotoGP teams gathered at Jerez in Spain for their final tests. Rizla Suzuki MotoGP chose to travel to Australia due to the technical and demanding nature of the 4,448km long circuit and was rewarded for its efforts with a thorough and complete evaluation of the new machine by both riders that will enable the Team to make significant advances in readiness for next year’s assault on the MotoGP World Championship.

Both riders carried out a huge test schedule – covering nearly 400 laps or 1,800km between them - as they were able to assess the new GSV-R with some very in-depth testing without the distractions of other riders on the circuit. The Factory Engineers now have a clear direction of which direction they need to go, not just to make the new bike more competitive at Phillip Island, but also at the other 17 circuits that Rizla Suzuki MotoGP will visit in 2008.

Rizla Suzuki MotoGP now has a seven-week test ban throughout December and January when the riders and crew are not allowed to turn a wheel on a track, but this doesn’t mean the work stops. The Suzuki Factory race department will be working tirelessly throughout this enforced test ban to make sure that Vermeulen and Capirossi have the most competitive machinery available when the 2008 MotoGP season gets underway, with the first-ever Grand Prix under lights, at Doha in Qatar on Sunday 9th March next year.

Chris Vermeulen:
“This has been a very positive test for us and we have got through loads of stuff during the two days! It’s quite difficult to gauge how well you are doing with no other riders here, but that has also been a positive thing as we have been able to get on with our job and not worry about other riders or lap-times. I know my pace on the new bike was better than the race here in October, but that was not what this test was all about. We were here to find out what would make the bike work better and we have certainly made big steps towards doing that, we have learned a lot that will help us not just at Phillip Island but elsewhere as well. It’s now just a shame that we have seven weeks off as I would like to continue working with the new bike and making sure we are as competitive as we can be when the season starts next March!”

Loris Capirossi:
“It was a very good test for me. I did nearly 200 laps and got through an incredible amount of work and we have found a good direction to go in. We got though our full test schedule and although we still have some things to improve, we now have a clear idea of what is needed and we are confident that we know how we are going to get there. I am really enjoying my time with the new team and it is now sad that we have to have such a long break, but I will come back refreshed and ready to get going at the end of January – I can’t wait for my first race on the Suzuki!”

"It was good to get back on the bike after six or seven weeks, and we're pretty happy with the first day. The track is not bad but it's a bit windy and dusty although things got better in the afternoon. We're not really in a hurry with the new 1098 bike, we're looking for a good base setting more than anything else and so far I'm pretty happy with the 2m00.6s I set on race tyres. The bike is quite similar to when I tested it at Vallelunga but we've got a lot of things to try out in the next couple of days and I'm sure we'll improve."

Michel Fabrizio
"My debut with the 1098 went quite well apart from a small crash! I like the bike a lot and I immediately managed to find a good feeling. Every time I went out in the morning, I managed to improve, which is always a good sign. In the afternoon however my time stayed the same as the morning because we changed the rear shock. There are another couple of days left here and I hope to improve."

Fonsi Nieto
I’m pretty happy with how today went and really I spent the time learning about my bike and also getting to know my team properly. They are a great bunch and I’m really looking forward to working with them. We started the day with everything as the bike finished the 2007 season and we made good progress throughout the morning. In the afternoon we made some changes (exhaust and chassis) and I didn’t get on with the bike as well. So we will look at the data this evening and decided where to start tomorrow. One thing that did excite me today is that I was able to pass somebody (Haga) on the straight! It’s probably the first time in three years that I’ve been able to do such a thing and it made me very happy. It was very windy and dusty today, so I hope tomorrow will be a bit better and we can carry on the good work.

Yukio Kagayama
Today I am happy because it was as much a test of my body as the bike! And I’m happy to say that my body feels OK after 55 laps and I didn’t have any pain. It was very windy and that is a good test for the handling of the bike. It was also very dusty and dirty, so I took it steadily - I did not want to crash! When we tried a new exhaust this afternoon, the feeling of the bike changed and we will need to make some more adjustments to get the bike working the way we want. We also tested quite a few tyres today - some that we did not have time to try or use during the season - and some were good and some not so. Tomorrow we will carry on our work and see what we can do.

Rizla Suzuki förarnas utalande om deras egna privata test på Philip Island hade Sandstream redan i inlägget innan visst! :D.

Stoner, quickest yesterday, was only eight fastest after finishing his day early when he crashed heavily with his 2008 Ducati.

The Ducati rider lost control of his bike at a high speed corner and had to visit the medical centre.

The Australian suffered a shoulder injury and will be forced to miss tomorrow's final day of testing of the year.
