Ok... detta är ju bara ett test, men jag tror (och hoppas) att Toseland kan skrälla lite då o då denna säsong.

En Pippigul 600.
Detta säger väl en del om Stoners självförtroende och tillit till hojjen.

Casey instantly stamped his authority on the slowly drying track, literally overtaking title rival Valentino Rossi in the early stages before pulling a huge 3.2secs clear of the competition after just five laps.

Stoner then sat calmly in the pits, with his arms crossed, to see if anyone could get near his mark. They couldn't, but Stoner returned to the track for the final five minutes just in case, by which time his lead was still 1.5secs, now over countryman Anthony West.

"I sat and waited for it to dry, but it didn't. Casey (Stoner) set the fastest time on his fifth lap when it was still quite damp, and no one went quicker.

Following Sunday's rain, the weather fortunately improved on Monday - where, as on day one, Repsol Honda's Nicky Hayden set the pace with the aid of a Michelin qualifying tyre.

Earlier in the day, James Toseland had been taken to the Clinica Mobile to have an injured ankle examined, but the Briton was fortunately able to get back out on track and eventually set the sixth fastest time.

Toseland's Yamaha Tech 3 team-mate Colin Edwards was the only person not to set a lap time today.

Dagens racedäck!

Jerez MotoGP race tyre times - Monday.
Monday, 18th February 2008

These are believed to be the fastest race tyre lap times, set by each rider during the third and final day of the official Jerez MotoGP test, which concluded on Monday.

As on Saturday's opening day, LCR Honda's Randy de Puniet set the best lap time during a multi-lap run - the Frenchman recording a 1min 40.871secs on the last of a five lap sequence.

Following Sunday's rain, track temperatures remained cool, leaving Puniet's best time over half a second from the 1min 40.223secs he had clocked during day one.

Indeed, only Rizla Suzuki team-mates Loris Capirossi and Chris Vermeulen set a quicker race tyre time on Monday than they had during Saturday's more favourable conditions - at least indicating progress after a tough weekend for the GSV-R riders.

MotoGP world champion Casey Stoner was next best behind de Puniet on Monday with a 1min 40.916secs, set on the first lap of a mere two lap stint.

The Ducati Marlboro star could therefore have potentially been using a qualifying tyre, but that seems unlikely since his three certain qualifying runs - during which he set his best overall lap of the day - took place over one single flying lap.

Aside from de Puniet, another satellite Honda rider produced a highly impressive race tyre time; MotoGP rookie Andrea Dovizioso guiding his JiR Scot Team machine to third place, within just 0.062secs of de Puniet.

Former five times MotoGP world champion Valentino Rossi was a close fourth (+0.192secs de Puniet) for Fiat Yamaha, while factory Repsol Honda rider Nicky Hayden - the fastest rider on qualifying tyres - was fifth on race tyres (+0.339secs de Puniet).

Rossi's team-mate Jorge Lorenzo, second on qualifying tyres, also slipped back on race rubber, the young Spaniard plummeting to tenth in the ranking below, although still just 0.8secs from de Puniet. Lorenzo had been second fastest on race tyres during day one.

Jerez test - race tyre lap times (Monday):

1. de Puniet (Honda) 1min 40.871secs (lap 5 of 5)
2. Stoner (Ducati) 1min 40.916secs (lap 1 of 2)
3. Dovizioso (Honda) 1min 40.933secs (lap 4 of 4)
4. Rossi (Yamaha) 1min 41.063secs (lap 2 of 6)
5. Hayden (Honda) 1min 41.210secs (lap 3 of 6).
6. de Angelis (Honda) 1min 41.264secs (lap 7 of 9)
7. Vermeulen (Suzuki) 1min 41.506secs (lap 3 of 3)
8. Capirossi (Suzuki) 1min 41.584secs (lap 2 of 3)
9. Toseland (Yamaha) 1min 41.619secs (lap 3 of 3)
